The design promise of this model was a boat which could be built very quickly and easily, (using our gear chine© system) from a simple kit.  The basic model, "Mandy"  is a rowing/motoring skiff (up to 6HP), with the traditional seats athwartships. 

"Amanda"  is the full sailing version, it has a "U" shaped cockpit with side seats,  daggerboard and mast collar for the simple lug rig.

 B&B was asked to participate in the 2011 WoodenBoat  Show family boat building in Mystic, Connecticut. 

We wanted a boat that would be a great family knockabout. She should have lots of stability so that a less than perfect seaman could have fun in her and feel safe. Good load carrying for a family. Be able to pull a trap over the side or to stand up and cast as well as having enough stability to carry a good size sail in a breeze. The stern should have enough buoyancy to carry a passenger while rowing or carry up to a 6 HP motor on the transom.

The Mandy-Amanda comes with both versions in the plan package.  This way you can build the simple Mandy version, or a sailing Mandy or any combination up to the full Amanda.  If you would prefer, you can order our easy to build kit.   The standard kit includes all of the plywood pieces for your hull

Mandy is the perfect boat for your family or your group to build at the WoodenBoat Show in 2013.  In the 3 days of the show, you will be completing your Mandy from opening the kit up to the epoxy coated and launched stage, as shown in the top photo - ready to row or motor.  All you will have to do to finish her off is painting.

The kit price for the basic Mandy is $1390.00*                   

Boat show kit only includes:  

Included:  All of the plywood, solid wood, epoxy, fiberglass, filleting sticks, fasteners etc...We will be bringing your panels pre- scarfed so that you will be able to finish the boat in the available time.  We will also be supplying the rowing hardware: bronze oarlocks and sockets as a standard part of the kit.

*We will include your boat's name carved into the transom. 

Optional items:  "Amanda Interior Kit"  includes the plywood for the U-shaped cockpit seats, complete daggerboard and rudder kit, foredeck with mast collar.  $380.00

Optional Rig/Sail is an extra

We also have a custom cradle available, made for this boat (see below).  It will hold the boat rock steady and level both in an upright and bottom up position for the optimal work surface during construction.  The folding cradles include a lower tray to keep  your tools off of the ground.  These will also make the perfect storage arrangement for your Mandy.  Inscribed with our hypocyloid, you will be showing off your stored boat.  Complete set: $90.00, or you assemble from the CNC cut 3/4" ply kit for $60.00  The cradle folds flat when not in use.

Alan is putting "Mandy" through her paces. He found her to be well balanced, close winded with a good turn of speed and a solid comfortable feeling. The green hull Sase-Amanda was built at Mystic in 2011 and was finished off after the show with twin electric outboards and solar panels. The PVC solar/awning frame and outboards can be removed in a couple of minutes and it reverts back to a rowing or sailing skiff.

With 2 adults and an 80# dog, Mandy's top speed was 6.8 knots.  Want to go even faster...look at Jessy, a pure power boat.
